"My love of fantasy mostly. I surround myself with it from the books I read, the media I watch, the games I play - be they board games, video games, or TTRPGs - to the conversations I have with my partner. I love stories of fairies and creatures and imagining them into being in the world around me. I want to pass on a little bit of magic and whimsy with everything I make."
The Newest Collection
Within this collection, 'Mugs and Slugs', Liv's favourite part was being able to have fun creating different variants of slugs. Thinking over their roles in a fantasy world.
"I also love thinking about who might buy them and what they would look like in their new home? I hope they bring joy to people."
If you think the multiple versions of slugs she has online now is all she had up her sleeves with all their whimsical charm, then you would be wrong. Liv found one of the most challenging aspects in creating this collection was a slug that she didn't even end up listing. " yet- I want to copy the design and see if I can do it better. The flail slug was the first time I've done a chain in clay and it was a careful balance to ensure the clay was wet enough to not crack but not so wet the links would stick together". Other then that the pumpkin slug for a similar reason. "Doing the tiny leaves and corkscrew vines was fiddly work".
Out of all of the whimsical creations within this collection, the tall mushroom mugs took the longest for Liv to make. "Each drop of ooze gets sculpted on and the entire thing gets meticulously underglazed before the first firing.
The witch hat slug took the least amount of time. The black underglaze requires the least amount of layers to get a pigmented look and I was able to use a dip glaze, which is faster than brush on."
Liv, while putting out online drops such as this one, is also in the process of creating stock for upcoming markets. "It's a lot of mugs and goblets at the moment. I'm enjoying exploring my creativity again and trying new and different mug designs. Lots of swords, flails, dragons, and other creatures". We can't wait to see Liv's creativity grow!
